Don’t take your eyes for granted. Imagine how many millions of people around the world work every day between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or over in front of the computer. Here are some habits that help you keep your eyes healthy.
Eat foods that are good for your eyes.
Eat foods that are abundant in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, lutein and beta-carotene as they repair the eyes, such as cod liver oil, sweet potatoes, butter, papaya, blueberries, apricot, and grapes. Here is a full list of food that is good for eyes.

Get Some Rest
Get enough rest, sleep allows overworked eye muscles to relax completely. Don’t stay engaged in one activity for long. Take regular breaks just for 5-10 minutes to rest your eyes.
Staring at a computer or phone screen for too long can cause eyestrain, blurry vision, dry eyes and headaches
To protect your eyes:
- Make assured your glasses or contacts prescription is up to date and fit for watching on a computer screen.
- Move the screen so your eyes are level with the top of the monitor. That lets you look slightly down at the screen.
- Try to avoid glare from windows and lights. Use an anti-glare screen if needed.

Wear Sunglasses
The appropriate pair of shades will help shield your eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. Too much UV exposure increases your risks of cataracts and macular degeneration. Pick a pair that blocks 99% to 100% of UVA and UVB rays. Polarized lenses diminish glare while you drive.
Stay Hydrated
Increase your water intake, if your eyes are often dry, blurry or tired. Whenever you have a few spare minutes, fill your mouth with water and then splash water with eyes wide open. This will leave you feeling revived, too.
Exercise Your Eyes
Place your hands together palm to palm and massage them together briskly generating heat. Place them over your eyes and imagine a relaxing place.

“We use time-outs. I took a page right from the TV show, ‘The Nanny.’ My kids go in time out for the number of minutes equivalent to their age. I expect an explanation for why the time out happened and then an apology. It works for us. It really helps for getting our kids to cool down, step away from the situation, and be mindful of the situation.” — Molly D.
